SBTi Validation

A step towards sustainability and competitiveness

Wilo has approved near and long-term science-based emissions reduction targets with the SBTi. The SBTi has verified Wilo’s net-zero science-based target by 2050.

Wilo’s goals:

  • WILO SE commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 50% by 2030 from a 2020 base year.

  • WILO SE commits to increase annual sourcing of renewable electricity from 40% in 2020 to 100% by 2030.

  • WILO SE also commits to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions 25% by 2030 from a 2020 base year.

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has established itself as a pioneering initiative to help companies reduce their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions while promoting sustainable growth. Its science-based approach not only offers companies a clear path to a low-carbon future, but also boosts stakeholder confidence and promotes innovation and competitiveness.

Nachhaltigkeit

Background of the SBTi

The SBTi is the result of a partnership between renowned organisations such as the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), the United Nations Global Compact, the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). Its aim is to help companies set their climate targets in line with the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement, in particular limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.

Participation and commitment

Companies of all sectors and sizes can join the SBTi and benefit from its expertise and resources. With over 7,000 participating companies worldwide, the initiative has become a key player in the field of corporate climate strategies. Participation requires the signing of a commitment letter and the submission of concrete targets for validation.

Commitment to sustainability

Wilo already submitted targets to the SBTi for validation in 2022. We are actively committed to sustainable action and are developing concrete solutions to comply with the 1.5-degree limit. We hereby see our sustainability strategy as an overarching priority.

The importance of validation

Validation by the SBTi is of crucial importance as it ensures that the targets set are in line with the Paris Climate Agreement. The targets formulated by Wilo are to be understood as minimum requirements, with a near-term target of scope 1 and 2 emissions being set above the required minimum. This process is an important step in ensuring that companies' efforts to reduce emissions are effective and ambitious.

A contribution to the global climate agenda

By committing to the SBTi and setting science-based targets, Wilo is demonstrating its endeavour not only to achieve its own sustainability goals, but also to make a positive contribution to the global climate agenda. By consistently pursuing its climate targets, Wilo is positioning itself as a pioneer in sustainability and setting an important example for the entire industry.
