Beautiful mountains and long valleys are any walker’s dream. For a water utility company, however, this scenario sets a highly complex set of challenges. Efficient pumps that can constantly provide suitable pressure and good planning are necessary to reliably supply regions that have significant differences in elevation and numerous consumption points that are spread out.
However, even in areas that are less geographically striking, water still has to be transported over long distances and distributed. Especially in large cities with numerous tall and large buildings, distribution at the correct pressure is a challenge that should not be underestimated as it necessitates a huge distribution network of pipes.
Water distribution and pressure boosting in the city
Pressure-boosting systems are part of the water distribution system within a building. They ensure that the required water pressure is available for drinking water, process water and firefighting water on all floors. Especially high-rise buildings or buildings in special locations require pressure-boosting systems because the supply pressure from the waterworks is insufficient or a different water pressure is required by law. Here, Wilo has several suitable solutions on offer to address any distribution and pressure-boosting challenges. In addition to their use in buildings, pressure-boosting systems are also used to increase the delivery head in water distribution networks in areas that have natural differences in elevation. Based on the high demands and loads that the components are subject to, a maintenance interval of six to twelve months is recommended in order to achieve safe and smooth long-term operation.
