Wilo advocates for a multilateral world

1.200 CEOs sign declaration for global cooperation

More than 1.200 CEOs from companies in over 100 countries have pledged their support to the United Nations and a global multilateralism. By signing the declaration, business leaders reaffirm their commitment to enhanced global collaboration, including Oliver Hermes, the CEO of Wilo Group.

The declaration, along with the complete list of supporters, was presented to UN Secretary-General António Guterres by Sanda Ojiambo, the Secretary-General of the UN Global Compact. The ceremonial handover took place in New York during the "Private Sector Forum" at the beginning of the UN General Assembly meeting. This forum commemorates the 75th anniversary of the United Nations.

Overcoming global challenges together

"As an active participant in the UN Global Compact network, it is natural for us to support a political and economically multilateral world order," explains Oliver Hermes. "The 75th anniversary of the establishment of the United Nations coincides with a time of unprecedented challenges. As a globally operating company, we are fully aware of the imperative need for cross-border and intergenerational cooperation in international collaborations to ensure sustainable development."

Praise for the commitment of companies

Global problems cannot be solved by individual efforts alone. "The declaration is a powerful endorsement of inclusive multilateralism. We need global cooperation to adapt to changing circumstances," says Sanda Ojiambo, who expressly applauded the commitment of the signing companies during the handover.

Sharing experiences, insights, and results

The Private Sector Forum is the first of three events on the sidelines of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, organized by the UN Global Compact to promote the principles of business and the goals of sustainable development. The declaration also supports SDG 16, promoting peace, justice, and strong institutions. "We are committed to the United Nations' sustainable development goals," emphasizes Oliver Hermes. "The call for solidarity has never been louder. The global challenges of our time can only be overcome through shared, global thinking. It is time for humanity to perceive itself as a community of destiny and act accordingly." Wilo Group is involved in various initiatives to proactively advance dialogue on overarching topics such as climate protection beyond national borders. With sustainable products, systems, and solutions, Wilo is leading the way for others and has been selected as one of the "50 Sustainability & Climate Leaders" worldwide by the United Nations and Bloomberg.

Text of the declaration: a just, inclusive, and sustainable world

Specifically, the declaration signed by the CEOs states: "We, the business representatives, acknowledge that peace, justice, and strong institutions are conducive to the long-term viability of our organizations and form the basis for complying with the ten principles of the UN Global Compact and achieving the sustainable development goals. Now we have the opportunity to learn from our collective experiences to realign ourselves with the UN's mandate and steer our world towards a fairer, more inclusive, and sustainable path. We do this together - and we are united in the business of creating a better world."
