Wilo unveils one of the first set of Wilo-Water Kiosk Project in Africa
This Wilo-Water Kiosk (WK) Project idea was generated when the President of the Republic of Ghana visited Wilo SE head office in Dortmund, Germany in February 2019.
His Excellency the President of Ghana became interested in the Water Kiosk concept after a short presentation of the products and services of Wilo and what Wilo can contribute to enhance the availability of portable water and its accessibility in Ghana.
A series of presentations on the WK were made to some key government agencies such as: The Ghana COCOBOD, Coastal and Northern Development Agencies and the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) just after the President’s visit to Wilo.
In second quarter (Q2) 2019, GNPC showed interest in the WK project and requested for a pilot WK in Ghana to use as a reference to place an order of 120 pieces of the WK as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to various deprived communities in Ghana.
In last quarter (Q4) 2019, Interloq Ghana Limited (A local engineering services company based in Ghana) was selected to be our local partner to build the Pilot WK in Ghana.
In first week in December 2019 a representative of Interloq limited and Dominic Addo (Wilo Ghana) travelled to Wilo India and underwent practical training on the existing WK and water ATM in India.
The filtration system (1000Litres per hour) was shipped to Ghana in Q1 2020.
Interloq limited completed the construction of the structure of the WK at the end of Q1 2020.
Hitesh (Wilo India) was scheduled to travel to Ghana in Q2 2020 to undertake the installation and commissioning of the filtration system.
Unfortunately, the borders of Ghana and India were closed during the period due to the Corona virus pandemic.
In Q3 2020 Wilo Ghana was tasked to undertake the installation and commissioning of the filtration unit with the remote assistance from Wilo India.
In Q4 2020, the installation and commissioning of the WK was done successfully.
Despite the delay of further negotiations with GNPC due to the Presidential Elections in December 2020, and subsequent appointment of new Chief Executives into all government agencies.
The Launch and Grand Opening of the WK was done on the 04.02.2021 with the Chiefs and people of Jato during a short ceremony.
This installation is one of the first set of Wilo-Water Kiosk in West Africa and Africa as a whole. Hence, it will be used as a reference for subsequent similar projects in the future.
