Wilo Nigeria Delivers Strategic Stormwater-Management Solution for Ilubirin Area, Lagos, Nigeria.
We successfully completed a critical stormwater-management installation for the Ilubirin Area - Lagos, Nigeria. The project is designed to safely and efficiently channel stormwater from Lagos Island into the Lagos Lagoon, helping protect one of the city’s most dynamic and rapidly developing urban zones.
Situated along a sensitive waterfront corridor, Ilubirin and its environs frequently experience high stormwater loads during heavy rainfall. To address this challenge and improve local flood resilience, the Lagos State Government partnered with Wilo to implement a robust pumping system capable of rapidly conveying excess stormwater away from the island.
At the core of the installation are 3 units of high-capacity Wilo-FA pumps engineered for reliable, continuous operation in demanding conditions. Their performance ensures swift and controlled discharge during peak storm events, reducing flood risks, improving safety, and supporting uninterrupted urban activity. Each pump is powered by 250 kilowatt electric motor and weighing an impressive five tonnes each with a remarkable flow capacity of 50,000 liters per minute.
The Ilubirin project is an important contribution to Lagos State’s broader climate-adaptation and flood-mitigation strategy. It also underlines Wilo’s commitment to advancing sustainable water and wastewater infrastructures across Africa’s fast-growing cities.
Wilo Nigeria is proud to support public-sector partnership in delivering resilient, future-ready water-management solutions that safeguard communities against the increasing impacts of extreme weather.
