Wilo Commended for Sustainability Efforts with EcoVadis Platinum Award

Back to overview

01.11.2023

Leading efficiency-first pump manufacturer, Wilo, has been awarded for its commitment towards driving sustainable practices.

Accredited by globally renowned sustainability rating agency, EcoVadis, Wilo has secured the highest rating of platinum for a second consecutive year. The feat is achieved by only one per cent of more than 100,000 companies assessed annually. The award is testament to Wilo’s ongoing dedication to incorporating sustainable practices, underpinned by several projects and investments aimed at taking responsibility for the carbon emissions produced throughout its supply chain. Last year, all Wilo’s European production plants were certified as carbon neutral, reinforcing the manufacturer’s ambitious goal of making all 70 of its sites worldwide carbon neutral by 2025.

Lee Tebbatt, Managing Director at Wilo UK, said: “Driving sustainable action is an integral part of our DNA. To receive the platinum award from EcoVadis for the second-year running is proof of our determination to ensure that our range of sustainability goals will soon become a reality.

“By implementing a comprehensive code of conduct this year, our suppliers are required to commit to a sustainable future by reducing their organisational carbon footprints through initiatives like ours. We are conducting regular audits of our suppliers in addition to helping them set their own environmental precedent through training exercises.”

It is estimated that ten per cent of the world’s energy is used in pumping, despite 90 per cent of pumping products being outdated and inefficient. Wilo is raising awareness of the issue to encourage specifiers and installers in the pump industry, as well as building owners, to join the collective effort required to address climate change, energy scarcity and water shortage, by considering the switch to smart pumps.

The manufacturer is also pioneering in greener energy solutions. In September 2022 Wilo opened its H2Powerplant, a pilot hydrogen plant that generates CO2-neutral hydrogen, stored as an emergency and back-up power supply for its Wilopark factory in Dortmund, Germany. The manufacturer intends to expand its climate-positive and self-sufficient energy supply network across global operations, boosting its aim of achieving climate neutrality by 2045.

Lee continued: “We are dedicated to continuing, and improving, our sustainability efforts and targets like a 20 per cent reduction in potable water use, accompanied by ensuring de-centralised power across all our production sites, will undoubtedly help our environmental evolution. Our commitment to developing energy efficient products is reflected throughout our sustainability strategy, Ambition 2025. This will enable Wilo to continue as a sustainability champion by offering innovative, green solutions for a better climate.”
