Wastewater treatment
The challenges faced by your wastewater treatment plant are growing: There is more and more contamination in sewage and wastewater, and at the same time the requirements for water quality following treatment are increasing. In addition, cost pressures are increasing to ensure consistent wastewater charges. As system experts, we draw on our know-how to offer you customised solutions for all wastewater treatment processes. Reduce your operating costs with us, whilst increasing efficiency at the same time.
Efficient, smooth and low-maintenance wastewater treatment operation
From sewage intake to mechanical and biological treatment, not to mention sludge treatment and the fourth purification stage – sewage treatment is a highly complex, multi-stage process requiring all steps to be coordinated effectively.
Against this backdrop, the focus of operators and consultants of wastewater treatment plants is on process reliability, energy efficiency as well as planning security and cost certainty. It must be possible to operate the wastewater treatment plant with a high level of efficiency and without malfunctions or costly maintenance work. But this is hard to implement when large intake fluctuations and increasing solids content in sewage occur at the same time. In addition to this, there are the requirements for control-optimised processes as well as more stringent conditions imposed by legal regulations and standards. In addition, issues such as reusing water and eliminating micropollutants are growing in significance, meaning that the expansion of these systems is also gaining in importance in many places.
Wilo is the comprehensive system partner in sewage treatment: We ensure an optimum purification result from the inlet to the outlet in the wastewater treatment plant with all components, such as mixer, aeration and pump technology. We don’t just consider your requirements selectively, rather we understand the complex interrelationships thanks to our experience and know-how. On this basis, we provide sound and reliable system solutions. In this way, wastewater companies and the operators of wastewater treatment plants have long-term planning security and cost certainty for treating industrial, domestic and agricultural sewage.
Sewage intake: This is how you protect the downstream processes
In order to protect your downstream processes and ensure your stormwater retention tank is emptied without residues, we offer you suitable solutions. With the directly driven submersible mixers from Wilo there is no sediment in the tank: The cleaning effort of an emptied tank is minimised by the right turbulences generated by the compact design of your systems – even at very low water levels thanks to their installation position close to the tank floor. The submersible sewage pumps from Wilo ensure reliable and complete tank drainage even after a prolonged downtime. This provides you with a future-proof, highly efficient and reliable solution.
Mechanical pretreatment: with maximum energy efficiency
The untreated sewage that arrives in the wastewater treatment plant needs to be reliably lifted at all times in the intake pumping station. This continuous operation not only requires long-lasting pump solutions, but also particularly efficient ones. Our sewage pumps are used to pump untreated sewage and are optimally designed for your required duty point. This results in reliable continuous operation that’s energy-efficient.
Primary treatment: Permanently reliable thanks to resistant materials
Sewage pumps are subject to a very high level of wear in the primary treatment stage. Therefore, we use chilled cast iron materials with an increased chrome content such as Abrasit or Ceram coatings here to reduce wear and increase the service life of the pumps. In this way, you achieve a permanently high level of reliability and safety in primary treatment, while ensuring maximum cost-effectiveness.
Secondary biological treatment: Perfect purification with minimised energy costs
Ensure a smooth flow and sufficient aeration in biological treatment to guarantee the microbiological process when treating sewage. Our submersible motors and vertical mixers, recirculation pumps, aeration systems and customised accessories provide you with the innovative technologies for this. Given that aeration usually accounts for the majority of the energy consumption of a wastewater treatment plant (around 60 to 80 percent), it’s particularly important to significantly minimise this consumption, both for financial and environmental reasons. You can minimise your operational energy costs and at the same time contribute to sustainability by using Wilo’s high-efficiency products.
Sludge treatment: Optimising homogenisation and avoiding deposits
Wilo mixers help you homogenise the thickened sludge so that the solids content in the sludge tank remains the same and deposits in the tank are avoided. Make the most of the Wilo mixers with optimised hydraulics and IE3 motors. They provide you with a large performance range with optimum motor-hydraulics combinations and the best possible thrust performance figures. That’s how you ensure reliable and non-clogging normal and continuous operation.
Fourth purification stage
Water shortages increasingly mean that the water needs to be directly re-used after the treatment process, which creates increasing challenges for sewage treatment. In order to guarantee high water quality, even the smallest impurities such as drugs or microplastics have to be removed, which often requires a fourth purification stage. The various cleaning processes and their combinations require a continuous flow of water through all stages of the process. Here too, you can rely on Wilo as your partner for energy-efficient pump and process technology solutions.
Benefit from our experts’ support in every phase of your project, from design and dimensioning to commissioning and maintenance. The basic requirement for efficient and reliable biological wastewater treatment is accurate system-dependent dimensioning and installation of the products. Wilo uses modern software-aided design tools and methods, which you can make use of if you wish. In order to select the right technology for your system, we use, among other things, the numerical flow simulation design method (CFD simulation). Our tailor-made service solutions cover the entire life cycle of your Wilo products.
