Reduce operating costs and lower energy consumption
In commercial buildings, some installed pump systems can operate inefficiently, leading to unnecessarily high energy costs. Often, they are outdated, overdimensioned, or poorly matched to actual demand. The result: rising operating costs, potentially higher energy-related CO2 emissions, depending on electricity use and the applicable emission factor and increased maintenance requirements.
With a Wilo-Energy Audit, you can identify untapped energy saving opportunities in your building.
Using a structured analysis process, we thoroughly examine the energy consumption of your installed pumps, pump systems, and control technologies. We also check the hydraulic conditions to identify overdimensioning or underdimensioning and identify potential savings opportunities for the assessed pump system.
More than just replacing pumps:
We don’t just replace old pumps with highly efficient models; we consider the entire pump system, including the distribution network.
| Typical challenges: | Your advantages: |
|---|---|
| Old, inefficient pump systems | Potential to reduce operating costs |
| Overdimensioned pumps | Project-specific calculation of the expected payback period |
| Excessive temperatures | Identify potential reductions in energy-related CO₂ emissions based on a defined baseline and emission factors. |
| No digital system monitoring | Keep track of energy-related data: Record and analyse relevant system data. |
| High susceptibility to faults |
1. Contact and on-site inspection
- Assessment of the existing pump system
- Checking the control technology
2. Data and potential analysis
- Life cycle costs (LCC) analysis
- Calculation of total cost of ownership (TCO), including maintenance costs
- Determination of load profile and volume flow measurement
- Optimisation of the overall pump system
3. Your customised energy-saving solution
- Development of an action plan
- Calculation of potential energy savings and reductions in energy-related CO₂ emissions
- Assessment of the required investment and expected payback period
- Recommendations for control and monitoring with the aim of reducing the risk of failures
- Assessment of total cost of ownership (TCO), including installation, commissioning and maintenance
- Optional: extended warranty packages with a defined scope of services and specified term
The calculations are based on the operating data and assumptions documented in the audit. Defined emission factors are used to calculate potential reductions in energy-related CO₂ emissions.
Energy savings in practice
From hospitals and food production to hotels: in these three projects, pumps were modernised on the basis of a Wilo Energy Audit, putting identified energy-saving potential into practice.
Hospital
Following the Wilo Energy Audit, two older, oversized pumps were replaced. The project achieved the following results:
- EUR 30,000 savings per year
- 152,000 kWh energy savings per year
- 0.5-year payback period
Hotel
Following the analysis, older circulation pumps at a hotel were replaced. During the first phase of the modernisation, energy consumption in the area of the plant room under consideration was reduced by 50 per cent. The following results were determined for the project:
- EUR 36,000 savings per year
- 74 tonnes reduction in energy-related CO₂ emissions per year
- Payback period of less than 2 years
Food production
Based on a Wilo Energy Audit, two older pumps in the cooling circuit were replaced with Wilo high-efficiency pumps. The project achieved:
- EUR 4,300 savings per year
- 20,900 kWh energy savings per year
- Payback period of less than 4 years
The stated savings relate to the systems assessed before and after modernisation. The results were determined on a project-specific basis using the operating data and calculation methods documented in the Wilo Energy Audit.
