SD32
Large-Scale Sewerage & Storm Water Pumping Systems – SD-32 Project
Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) is responsible for the planning, development, and maintenance of the city’s civic infrastructure, including sewerage and drainage systems. Large parts of Kolkata operate on a combined sewerage network developed over more than a century, which faces increasing stress due to population growth, aging assets, and low-lying terrain prone to flooding and prolonged waterlogging.
Under the SD-32 project, a high-capacity combined sewerage and storm water pumping station has been constructed to manage both dry weather flow and storm water flow. The pumping systems are designed to operate continuously under demanding urban conditions, handling high flow rates, mixed sewage, and storm water during peak monsoon events. The installation supports effective flood mitigation, improved sewage conveyance, and enhanced reliability of the city’s drainage network.
Urban sewerage and drainage applications impose severe hydraulic and mechanical demands on pumping equipment due to continuous operation, high inflow variability, suspended solids, and extreme weather conditions. The pumps installed under the SD-32 project are engineered with robust hydraulic designs, non-clog impellers, heavy-duty bearings, and high-efficiency motors to ensure reliable, long-term performance in such environments.
From an operational perspective, the SD-32 pumping station plays a critical role in improving drainage efficiency and reducing waterlogging in the Mukundapur area. The successful commissioning and operation of the pumping systems demonstrate capability in delivering engineered pumping solutions for large-scale urban sewerage and storm water infrastructure projects.
