Tangnar Water Supply Scheme
Tangnar Water Supply Scheme
The Tangnar Water Supply Scheme is a key water infrastructure project developed to strengthen potable water availability for Jammu, the winter capital of the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir. Located in a region characterized by hilly terrain and variable hydrological conditions, the project plays an essential role in ensuring dependable water supply to urban and surrounding areas. Jammu, widely known as the “City of Temples”, has a growing population and increasing demand for reliable municipal water services.
The scheme has been designed to draw and convey water efficiently across elevation differences while maintaining operational reliability. Given the challenging topography and the need for uninterrupted water delivery, the project required robust pumping solutions capable of handling high heads and fluctuating demand conditions, ensuring long-term service continuity and infrastructure resilience.
The Tangnar Water Supply Scheme required a pumping system capable of delivering reliable performance under demanding hydraulic and geographical conditions. The application involves lifting and transporting water over significant elevation differences while ensuring consistent flow and pressure for municipal distribution. Reliability, energy efficiency, and operational stability were key design considerations due to the strategic importance of the water supply network.
To meet these requirements, four Vertical Turbine Pumps were deployed, selected for their suitability in high-head water abstraction and transmission applications. With power ratings ranging from 160 kW to 335 kW, these pumps provide efficient and stable operation while minimizing energy losses. Their vertical configuration allows for effective installation in deep intake structures, ensuring dependable water supply and supporting the sustainable development of urban water infrastructure in the Jammu region.
