Transforming Water and Sanitation in the Copperbelt
Communities in Chambishi, Kalulushi, and Kitwe are set to benefit from one of the most significant infrastructure upgrades in recent years, as Phase II of the Water Supply and Sanitation Project moves into full swing. This ambitious initiative is designed to improve access to clean, safe water and modern sanitation services, laying the foundation for healthier living and sustainable urban growth across the Copperbelt.
A Major Step Forward for Water Security
At the heart of the project is the construction of a new extension to the Bulangililo Water Treatment Plant, designed to process an impressive 40,000 cubic meters of water per day. This expansion will not only increase capacity but also ensure a more consistent and reliable water supply for thousands of households and businesses.
Upgrading Existing Infrastructure
In addition to the new plant extension, three existing water treatment plants are undergoing comprehensive rehabilitation. These upgrades will enhance efficiency, improve water quality, and extend the lifespan of critical infrastructure.
Improving Sanitation for Healthier Communities
The project also includes the modernisation of sewerage treatment facilities, ensuring that wastewater is managed safely and effectively. New storage and transmission infrastructure will further strengthen the system, reducing service interruptions and improving overall resilience.
A Lasting Impact
Once completed, the improvements will have a transformative effect on daily life in the region. Residents can look forward to cleaner water, better sanitation, and reduced health risks associated with waterborne diseases. The project also supports economic growth by providing the reliable infrastructure needed for businesses and industries to thrive.
This is more than just an infrastructure upgrade — it’s an investment in the future of the Copperbelt, ensuring that communities have the resources they need to grow, prosper, and live healthier lives.
