Hyvolution Chile 2025 hosted the launch of the PPP project between Wilo and GIZ for modular plants
Santiago, Chile. Within the framework of Hyvolution Chile 2025, the official launch of the public-private partnership (PPP) project “H2 Power Plants for LATAM: Scaling Modular Green Hydrogen for Industrial Transformation in Brazil and Chile” took place. The initiative is led by Wilo and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, in collaboration with the German Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Chile (AHK Chile) and Brazil (AHK Rio).
The event, which brought together representatives from industry, government, academia, and sector associations, included the signing of a cooperation agreement, the presentation of the objectives of the H2Uppp Programme of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE), and a dialogue on key factors to scale up green hydrogen in Chilean industry, moderated by the Chilean Hydrogen Association (H2 Chile).
The project, to be implemented between August 2025 and September 2026, aims to foster the development of the green hydrogen market in Chile and Brazil through comprehensive modular solutions for hydrogen generation, storage, and reconversion in industrial facilities. It also foresees feasibility studies, business models, and training programmes to strengthen local capacities and accelerate the adoption of this technology.
“This project will contribute to the development of the green H₂/PtX market in Brazil and Chile by promoting the implementation and advancement of hydrogen-based solutions, creating new business opportunities for engineering firms and local project developers, and enhancing the competitiveness of local industry. We are proud to be part of this agreement with GIZ, which allows us to continue moving forward enthusiastically toward a greener future, strengthening cooperation with Latin America and leading the transition toward a sustainable hydrogen-based energy model,” said Giannina de Nicola, Application Engineering Coordinator at Wilo.
“As the German government, we are committed to promoting this kind of partnership in trade and technology. And hydrogen is definitely a shared opportunity, linking Germany and Latin America, connecting industry and government, uniting knowledge and implementation. We seek to jointly develop viable economic solutions for climate-friendly hydrogen, reliable certification systems, and cross-border infrastructure.
Latin America – and especially Chile and Brazil – play a central role in this regard. With abundant renewable resources, clear political commitment, and a growing industrial base, the region has all the conditions to become a trusted long-term partner in the global hydrogen economy,” said Dr. Christian Storost, Head of Division for International Hydrogen Ramp-Up at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE), who shared a video message at the beginning of the event.
With this launch, Germany, Chile, and Brazil reaffirm their commitment to the energy transition and to the creation of a green hydrogen ecosystem that enables the decarbonization of energy-intensive industries, opens new investment opportunities, and generates skilled employment in the region.
