GIZ and Wilo advance partnership to support industrial decarbonization with green hydrogen

Back to overview

13.04.2026

The PPP led by German Development Cooperation to develop a high-quality green hydrogen market for industrial use is active in Brazil and Chile

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), and the Wilo Group are advancing their collaboration to accelerate industrial decarbonization through decentralized green hydrogen solutions in Brazil and Chile under the International Hydrogen Ramp-up Programme (H2Uppp). As a funding programme of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, H2Uppp is supporting entrepreneurial engagement in the ramping-up of hydrogen in the Global South.

During a strategic meeting hosted by the Brazil-Germany Chamber of Commerce in Rio de Janeiro (AHK Rio), representatives from Wilo and GIZ reviewed the progress of their partnership and outlined the next steps for bringing innovative hydrogen solutions closer to industrial users. The meeting also advanced the organization of a delegation that will visit Wilo’s headquarters and manufacturing facilities in Dortmund, Germany, an initiative designed to strengthen technological exchange and serve as a preparatory milestone ahead of the World Hydrogen Summit.

A core initiative of the collaboration is a sector-mapping study currently underway in Brazil and Chile, designed to identify industries with the greatest potential to adopt decentralized green hydrogen technologies developed by Wilo.

The project focuses particularly on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), which often face barriers to accessing competitive green hydrogen solutions but account for a significant share of industrial emissions. At the core of the initiative is Wilo’s H2POWERPLANT, a modular system that enables companies to produce green hydrogen directly at industrial sites using renewable energy. By enabling on-site hydrogen generation and its integration into existing industrial processes, the technology helps companies reduce carbon emissions while increasing their energy flexibility.

Through the partnership, GIZ contributes expertise in sustainable economic development, policy frameworks, and institutional cooperation, while Wilo provides technological know-how and implementation capacity for industrial hydrogen solutions.

International agenda and coordination with the sector

During the meeting, partners also discussed strategies to showcase the technology at key industry events in 2026, including the World Hydrogen Summit, which will take place from May 19 to 21 in Rotterdam, and Hyvolution São Paulo, scheduled for June 16 and 17.

As part of the preparations for the international event, GIZ has been holding strategic meetings with companies identified as potential partners for future collaborations and joining the delegation attending the Rotterdam event, such as Petrobras and Neoenergia.

Participation in these events is part of a strategy to increase the initiative’s visibility, foster business connections, and create concrete opportunities for cooperation and contracting, thereby strengthening the green hydrogen ecosystem in Brazil and Latin America.
