Strong partner: Wilo develops global health management with BASF

BASF Kooperationsvertragsunterzeichnung Global Health Management

Health Cube as a hub for employee health worldwide

Dortmund. Wilo and BASF have signed a partnership agreement to collaborate on expanding Wilo’s global health management programme. The place where the agreement was signed is also the hub of the collaboration, the Health Cube. This is a new health centre at the Wilo Group’s headquarters, which benefits both the employees at the Wilopark and the other 8,000 Wilo employees worldwide. Parts of the building, which will be officially opened in April 2026, will also be accessible to external visitors.

“Wilo has a tradition of taking responsibility for health”, said Oliver Hermes, President & Global CEO of the Wilo Group, at the signing ceremony. “This applies to the market, where we secure healthcare with products, systems and solutions, such as for applications in hospitals, but of course also to our employees.” Both the construction of the Health Cube and the expansion of Wilo’s global health management programme are strategic investments, Hermes continues. “Investments in the health of the Wilo family – worldwide. I am delighted that we have a strong partner at our side in BASF.”

More specifically, they are: The collaboration between the two groups includes the development of an international Wilo health management system, which will initially be introduced in the Asia, Middle East, Africa (AMEA) region with a focus on India, Korea, China and the United Arab Emirates. This improves employees’ access to local healthcare, for example. The partners are also implementing a global campaign to raise awareness among Wilo employees about the importance of mental health.

“We are convinced that we can contribute to the success of this major project with our experience”, explains Prof Dr Christoph Oberlinner, Chief Medical Officer at BASF. The chemical company operates the BASF Medical Centre in Ludwigshafen, which, like the Health Cube, is aimed at employees and external patients. BASF Corporate Health Management is responsible for the medical coordination and auditing of occupational health activities in BASF Group companies. “Raising awareness among employees about health risks while encouraging them to take an interest in their own physical and mental wellbeing is a big task and a great opportunity”, says Oberlinner.

In addition to treating acute problems, the Health Cube focuses primarily on promoting physical and mental health. Alongside curative healthcare services, there are numerous preventative programmes. The 5,500 square metre health centre encompasses company, GP and specialist practices, as well as a prevention centre. It also includes a gym with outdoor sports facilities, a lounge with an open kitchen, social and life counselling services, and a childcare centre. When it comes to equipment, Wilo relies on high-tech devices and the integration of AI.

Last year, Wilo’s occupational health management at the Dortmund site was honoured with the prestigious Corporate Health Award. Wilo took first place in the “Large company/group mechanical engineering” category – also as a result of the Health Cube project. “However, the Health Cube is more than just a modern health centre at the Wilopark”, explains Georg Weber, Global CTO of the Wilo Group. “It’s the new home of our global health management.”
