SUSTAINABLE PRODUCT RECYCLING AT WILO
WE AIM TO RECYCLE OLD PRODUCTS TO KEEP THEM IN THE RAW MATERIALS LOOP – AND WE SEE IT AS OUR DUTY, TOO
Wilo’s approach takes the whole life cycle of its products into account. That means we do not just deliver excellent products to our customers – we also think ahead during the design phase to consider what will happen to products at the end of their service life. Reusing materials and components is important to us. That is why the materials and components we use are thoroughly tested not only for their environmental impact, but also for their ability to be reused and recycled at the end of their operating life.
We do not just promise to follow the guideline to “reduce, reuse, recycle” before considering disposal – we live by it. Returned products are disassembled and sorted by type, and components that do not suffer wear during their operating life are reused by our repairs centre. All remaining sorted materials are passed on to our certified recycling partner, who ensures that our disassembled materials are returned to the “raw materials loop”.
For that reason, we ask customers such as yourself to return your product to us after the end of its operating life in order to actively support resource conservation. If you are unable to do so, please bring the product to a certified waste disposal company and do not throw it into your domestic refuse. We cannot conserve resources in an environmentally and economically sound way without your help!
The information provided on this page is not just for our customers. It also aims to provide waste disposal companies that receive our products after the end of their service life with information on how to handle and recycle our products in the simplest and most environmentally friendly way possible.
It is possible to recycle nearly 100 % of a Wilo pump. That means that nearly every component of a pump that is no longer in use can be directly returned to the raw materials loop. Metals make up most of the total weight. As such, recycled and reused materials already make up the majority by weight of a Wilo pump.
As a result of ecodesign guidelines regarding pumps coming into force, the number of electronic pumps in Europe is going to increase. This trend is not all that new: the proportion of electronics and sophisticated materials in our products has been steadily increasing for some time. Using these technologies in our products reduces both their overall weight and total power consumption over their operating life. Of course, these changes also present new challenges in the recycling process. Conscious of these challenges, Wilo has worked with research partners to implement sustainable approaches and designs over the past years.
The Wilo group is committed to a process of constant improvement, which – naturally – also covers the recyclability of our products. As such, we make every effort to continuously improve the environmental sustainability of our products.
