SUSTAINABLE AND CLIMATE-FRIENDLY PRODUCT RECYCLING
OUR RECYCLING-FRIENDLY PRODUCT DESIGN ENABLES THE SUSTAINABLE AND CLIMATE-FRIENDLY RECYCLING OF IMPORTANT RAW MATERIALS
Recycling is one of the key components of climate protection. After all, approx. 50 percent of global CO2 emissions are directly or indirectly caused by the extraction and processing of raw materials! This makes it all the more important to keep the resources we have already taken from the earth in circulation. This means: Keeping resources that have already been extracted and used in products in circulation after their first use, which contributes to climate protection.
The products we develop and market contain a lot of recyclable materials, which is why for us it entails “thinking about tomorrow today” and why Wilo’s goal is a holistic life cycle approach. This means that our focus is not just on supplying our customers with excellent products, but also on thinking about the potential end of life of these products during their development. To this end, our experts have defined in-house requirements for sustainable product development that go far beyond legal requirements.
Reusing materials and components is important to us. This is why the materials and components used are strictly tested for their reusability or recyclability after the end of operation, in addition to their general environmental compatibility.
Our guideline “avoidance and use before recycling and disposal” is more than just a promise - we live it every day. Returned products are first thoroughly analysed in our analysis, repair and recycling centre and then dismantled by type. The components that are not subject to wear during their service life are reused in our repair centres. All remaining sorted materials are passed on to our certified recycling partner, who ensures that our disassembled materials are returned to the “raw materials loop”.
The possible recycling rate of a Wilo pump is thus almost 100%. This means that at the end of a pump’s service life, almost every component can be returned directly to the “material cycle”.
For this reason, customers are kindly requested to hand in the dismantled old products at WEEE (EU Regulation - Waste of electronic and electric equipment) authorised collection points in their country. By handing in the old products there, you ensure that old electrical equipment, which includes our pumps, is handled in accordance with the law and in doing so you sustainably support climate protection by recycling important raw materials.
