Wilo Global WATER AI Academy: Strong partnership network continues to grow

Dortmund. The regional water management associations Emschergenossenschaft and Lippeverband (EGLV), together with the Centre of Expertise Water Technology (CEW) in Leeuwarden, have become partners of the Wilo Global WATER AI Academy. Their participation further expands the Wilo Group’s education, innovation and collaboration hub, bringing together even more leading organisations from industry and academia.

With the Global WATER AI Academy, Wilo has created a global platform for exchange and joint learning – a network that brings together outstanding applied research, practical market experience and entrepreneurial innovative power,” says Oliver Hermes, President & Global CEO of the Wilo Group. “We are delighted that EGLV and CEW are joining our ecosystem as high-calibre partners. Their expertise will further strengthen our network.”
Prof. Uli Paetzel, Chairman of the Executive Board of Emschergenossenschaft and Lippeverband, adds: “As Germany's largest water management association, we are happy to contribute our expertise and know-how to the Global WATER AI Academy – and are equally pleased about the experiences and suggestions of our partners.” Among other things, the partners plan to work on the development of a real-world laboratory focusing on the intelligent use of sewage for nutrient recovery, energy generation and plant cultivation.
A key focus of the collaboration between Wilo and CEW will be the development of a WATER AI module for the academic programmes offered at the WaterCampus Leeuwarden, which is operated by CEW together with its partners. The partners also intend to develop a digital twin to model water supply and sewage disposal systems of a Dutch island. Strong seasonal fluctuations in demand are placing increasing pressure on water infrastructure on islands such as Schiermonnikoog. Anne-Wil Lucas, Executive Director of CEW, says: “We are happy to partner with Wilo and the Global WATER AI Academy to do research projects concerning the availability of water, re-use of wastewater, recovery of nutrients and AI-driven water management systems. We can help Wilo to test their innovations in our lab and at our demosites, so together we can bring innovative solutions to the market quicker.”
Through the Global WATER AI Academy, the water technology group Wilo is bringing together science and industry on a global scale, fostering applied research, innovation and collaboration in the fields of water and AI across industry and national borders. The Academy’s partner network includes Heriot-Watt University, TU Dortmund University, the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, the EUREF Talent Campus, Mitsubishi Electric, InstaDeep – and now also its newest partners Emschergenossenschaft, Lippeverband and the Centre of Expertise Water Technology (CEW).
