Ten years as a team: Wilo supports Germany's Eight even in stormy times
Extension of cooperation until 2024Since 2010, Wilo Group, one of the world leaders in pumps and pump systems, has been the main sponsor of the Germany's Eight team and has supported the exemplary athletes even in challenging times like these. Accordingly, despite the pandemic, the company has extended its commitment for another Olympic cycle, which means another four years. "We are proud to continue accompanying the flagship of German rowing on its long path of success," explains Oliver Hermes, Chairman of the Executive Board and CEO of Wilo Group. "Especially considering the postponed Olympic Games in Tokyo and the associated disappointment, it is important for us to continue supporting the Germany's Eight team and maintaining our commitment as part of our long-term strategy." The past months have shown that reliable partnerships are of particular value in challenging times, says Oliver Hermes. This is reflected in a high mutual identification between employees and athletes, who often complete internships at the company as part of their studies.
Excitement at the European Championships in Poland and the Cup in Rendsburg
The cooperation has been a success model: Over the past decade, the team has achieved victories in seven European Championships, four World Championships, and the Olympic Games in London 2012. In this year marked by the COVID-19 pandemic, despite the postponed Olympic Games in Japan, there are still two exciting challenges ahead for the athletes led by coxswain Martin Sauer: After a long competition break, the team will compete against the international rowing elite in October at the European Championships in Poznan, Poland, and at the traditional season finale, the SH Netz Cup in Rendsburg. "The relationship between Wilo and the Germany's Eight team goes beyond mere sponsorship. Based on conviction, we see this collaboration as a sustainable partnership," explains Kay Hoffmann, Director of Government & Public Affairs. The recent achievement of the junior team winning the title in the Eight at the U23 European Championships in Duisburg is a confirmation of this unique concept. "The extensive support of young talent by the Wilo Foundation ensures that rowing in Germany, especially in Dortmund, maintains a solid foundation, and the success story can continue despite the changes expected after the upcoming Olympic Games," explains Wilo CEO Oliver Hermes. Acting with a focus on the future means taking responsibility for the common good, as companies and society are in the same boat, especially in difficult times.
