If you talk to Laurits Follert, you're bound to be in a good mood. Always cheerful and always with a big smile on his face. But as soon as he sits in the rowing boat, the Duisburg native shows a different side. Full professionalism. Just before the competition, he is completely focussed. And at the start gun of the race, he seems to explode. Laurits Follert has been an integral part of Team Germany Eight for 8 years.
Laurits celebrated his breakthrough in the German men’s eight in the 2016/17 season. 21 years old at the time, he was part of the young men’s four that reached the A final at the 2017 World Championships in Sarasota, USA. In 2019, he became European and World Champion for the first time with the flagship, the men’s eight. In 2020, he defended his title at the European Championships and won silver at the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
In order to remain successful after his career, Laurits Follert decided to join the Federal Police's support group. He works from September to December to advance his professional career alongside his sporting one. For the rest of the year, he is fully available to the team German Men’s Eight.
