Together for Nature: Wilo USA and the Milwaukee Bucks Join Forces for Reforestation

Climate Change Urbanisation Caring Connecting Climate protection

30 Volunteers, 90 Hours – A Powerful Statement for Sustainability

Employees from Wilo USA and the NBA team Milwaukee Bucks rolled up their sleeves together at the Riveredge Nature Centre in Saukville, Wisconsin, taking part in a local reforestation initiative. Since 2024, Wilo has been the Bucks’ first global sustainability partner.

The Riveredge Nature Centre is a leading hub for environmental education and conservation in southeastern Wisconsin. Its 379 hectares of forests, prairies, wetlands, and the Milwaukee River serve as a living laboratory for research, restoration, and public learning – all with the aim of fostering a harmonious coexistence between people and nature.

Altogether, 30 volunteers from Wilo USA and the Milwaukee Bucks came together with a shared goal: to support native plant species, suppress invasive ones, and protect habitats for local wildlife.

This initiative forms part of the long-term commitment by Wilo and the Milwaukee Bucks to climate and environmental protection. Central to this is the belief that companies must take responsibility – not only by developing energy-efficient technologies, but also through hands-on local action.

“We believe that many small steps – taken together – can lead to real change,” says Laurent Davis, Vice President of Product Management/Marketing at Wilo USA.

And that’s exactly what the team proved in Saukville. Over the course of 90 work hours, two groups planted a wide range of herbs, trees, and shrubs – making a tangible contribution to preserving biodiversity in Wisconsin.

“Sustainability isn’t just a trend for us – it’s part of our organisational responsibility. Together with Wilo, we want to create real added value for our region,” adds Kareeda Chones Aguam, Senior Vice President of Partner Strategy and Management at the Milwaukee Bucks.

For Wilo, sustainability is more than a strategic objective – it’s a mindset. Under the banner of “Scoring for Sustainability” – derived from the company’s sustainability strategy – Wilo is working globally with its sponsorship partners to build a greener future. Initiatives like this planting day with the Milwaukee Bucks bring these partnerships to life: people come together to actively shape their environment.

“We want to help shape a better future – for both people and the planet. Big global goals like these can only be achieved when we take responsibility at the local level, work closely with our partners, and deliver impact that is both meaningful and lasting wherever we operate,” says Julia Liebetanz, Group Director Global Brand Management.

The event in Saukville shows how real change begins – not with grand statements, but with spades, soil, and team spirit.
