Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)
On this page:
In 2015, the United Nations adopted the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This action plan outlines a pathway towards greater prosperity and quality of life while reducing resource consumption.
Wilo’s ambition is to contribute to a sustainable future and to take responsibility for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. In 2018, the Executive Board of the Wilo Group signed the UN Global Compact, reaffirming the company’s commitment.
As a provider of pumps and system solutions for water management and building services, Wilo operates in areas that are central to sustainable development: water supply, energy efficiency, urban infrastructure, and industrial applications. In line with its business activities, Wilo has a particular impact on SDGs 6, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, and 17.
These are addressed both through the core business and through targeted initiatives and partnerships. The aim is to align technological solutions and business activities in a way that enables measurable contributions to sustainable development.
SDG in Focus
The Sustainable Development Goals provide a global framework for sustainable development. Wilo focuses on those goals where the company can make a relevant contribution through its core business, technologies, and partnerships.
The following focus areas illustrate where Wilo takes action and how its business activities are connected to the goals of sustainable development.
SDG 6
Clean Water and Sanitation
Wilo’s goal is to provide more people with access to clean water. Sustainability is embedded in the company’s core business. Through its technologies and solutions, Wilo contributes to expanding and improving water and sanitation services.
By using energy-efficient pump systems, digital control solutions, and applications in water infrastructure, Wilo supports operators in delivering water resources more reliably and reducing system losses.
SDG 8
Decent Work and Economic Growth
As a globally operating employer, Wilo contributes to employment and economic development in many countries. Safe working conditions and the development and support of employees are key priorities.
Through investments in modern production facilities, qualification programs, and international collaboration, Wilo helps create conditions for long-term employment and strengthens local value creation.
SDG 9
Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
Wilo sees itself as an innovation leader and digital pioneer in its industry. By deploying energy-efficient technologies and digital solutions, the company supports the development of sustainable infrastructure and the advancement of industrial processes.
Digital services, connected systems, and high-efficiency products help improve operational reliability, optimize resource use, and reduce operating costs.
SDG 11
Sustainable Cities and Communities
Urbanization presents major challenges for cities worldwide. Wilo addresses these challenges with intelligent and efficient solutions for building services and water infrastructure that can contribute to more efficient resource use.
In particular, Wilo’s technologies support stable water distribution, energy-efficient building systems, and the ability to adapt to increasing demands driven by population growth.
SDG 12
Responsible Consumption and Production
Wilo operates with a focus on resource efficiency and promotes circular economy initiatives. By expanding take-back systems for used equipment, the company aims to reduce the use of primary raw materials and keep materials in use for as long as possible.
Already in the product development phase, attention is paid to optimizing material use, energy consumption, and product lifespan in order to consider environmental impacts across the entire life cycle.
SDG 13
Climate Action
Climate change represents a major challenge. Wilo develops technologies that can reduce the energy consumption of pump systems, thereby lowering emissions during the use phase.
Since a significant share of environmental impact occurs during operation, Wilo focuses on high-efficiency products that can contribute to reducing energy consumption over their entire lifecycle.
SDG 17
Partnerships for the Goals
Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals requires collaboration. Wilo works with partners from business, politics, and society to combine expertise and advance sustainable solutions.
Through networks, collaborations, and joint projects, knowledge is shared and the implementation of sustainable solutions is accelerated.

Climate Protection Projects
Wilo further strengthens the impact of the Sustainable Development Goals by supporting selected climate protection projects. These projects deliver measurable global emission reductions while also creating social and environmental co-benefits.
They complement the measures taken in the core business and specifically address unavoidable emissions through certified climate protection initiatives.
Safe Water Programme (Kenya)
The Safe Water Programme provides disadvantaged schools and families with long-term access to clean drinking water. The project contributes to improved health outcomes for children and can increase school attendance rates, particularly for girls.
By reducing the need to boil water, emissions are avoided and household costs are lowered. The project contributes to several Sustainable Development Goals, including Goals 1, 3, 6, 7, 8, and 13.
Wilo has been supporting the project since 2023, thereby linking its climate management activities with tangible local impact.
For the reporting year 2025, Wilo compensates its unavoidable greenhouse gas emissions by purchasing CO₂ certificates from the project in Kenya, achieving an equivalent climate benefit of 8,315 tonnes of CO₂e.

Central Mozambique Safe Water Programme
The Central Mozambique Safe Water Programme improves access to safe drinking water for disadvantaged communities. This helps reduce waterborne diseases and improves overall living conditions.
At the same time, emissions are reduced because water no longer needs to be boiled to the same extent. The project supports, among others, Sustainable Development Goals 3, 5, 6, and 13.
By supporting this project, Wilo complements its activities in water infrastructure with an international impact contribution in regions with particular needs.
For the reporting year 2025, the emission reductions enabled by Wilo through the project in Mozambique amount to 119 tonnes of CO₂e.
