German-Russian Summer School
Dortmund/Berlin. The German-Russian Summer School (GRSS) will take place in Dortmund and Berlin from 19 to 30 August 2019. 21 Russian students from the Urals Federal University Ekaterinburg and 20 German students will participate in the event hosted by the TU Dortmund this time. The GRSS takes place every year, alternating between Germany and Russia.
This year's programme is themed "Smart Electricity and Engineering" and deals with various aspects of an innovative and climate-friendly energy industry of the future. The integration of renewable energies into an intelligent energy system as well as the topic Smart Factory, using the example of the new production plant of the Wilo technology group, are the main focus of this event. During the Summer School lectures will be held on the topics defined and supplemented by visits to different companies. This gives the GRSS participants both theoretical knowledge and practical insight.
In his welcoming speech to the participants of the GRSS, Prof. Dr Pinkwart, Economics Minister, emphasised that he very much welcomes the German-Russian student exchange on important future topics. The research and application of innovative technologies for climate protection are special tasks for the young experts. On 29 and 30 August 2019, the participants will visit Berlin and will also be welcomed by the German President Dr Frank-Walter Steinmeier at Bellevue Castle. The reason for the reception is Steinmeier’s visit to Ekaterinburg as the German Foreign Minister back in 2008, which also was the point of origin for the German-Russian Summer School. He gave a speech at the Urals Federal University on the modernisation partnership between Russia and Germany which met with an enormous response, especially at the European level.
On 30 August 2019 the last lecture and tours block of this year's Summer School will be held on the EUREF campus. The EUREF Campus forms the innovation site where energy change can already be experienced in all its facets. The main sponsor of this year's GRSS is Wilo SE based in Dortmund.
Mr Oliver Hermes, Chairman and CEO of Wilo, emphasises that the promotion of scientific exchange between Russia and Germany is of outmost importance to him. "Especially for an internationally operating company like the Wilo Group, which also has a production site in Russia, well-trained young people are an important factor that we are happy to support. In addition to professional qualifications, it is also important to us that there is a personal, social and cultural exchange between people, especially in such tense times as we are currently experiencing".
In addition to the Wilo Group, the Summer School is supported by Schneider Electric SE, Dieffenbacher GmbH, EUREF AG and Uniper SE. The EnergyEurasia GmbH is responsible for the organisation of the GRSS, in cooperation with the two universities.
