Wilo named among Europe’s Climate Leaders for 2024

Back to overview

05.09.2024

Efficiency-first manufacturer Wilo has been named among Europe’s Climate Leaders for 2024 in recognition of its commitment to reducing carbon emissions and driving sustainable practices.

The initiative, led by the Financial Times and Statista, looks to identify companies that are making significant headway towards combatting climate change. A business is scored primarily based on its reduction in Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions.

Other factors include its extent of Scope 3 emissions reporting, commitment to achieving net zero, and collaboration with sustainability assessors such as the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), and the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP).

Between 2017 and 2022, Wilo made a 67.6% reduction of Scope 1 and 2 emissions, which contributed to a 30.2% total reduction of core emissions.

Lee Tebbatt, Managing Director at Wilo UK, said: “This accolade is testament to Wilo’s ongoing dedication to incorporating sustainable practices, underpinned by projects and investments aimed at taking responsibility for the carbon emissions produced throughout the supply chain.

“Our commitment to developing energy efficient products is reflected throughout our sustainability strategy, Ambition 2025, and to be recognised as one of Europe’s Climate Leaders for 2024 is proof of our ongoing determination. Moving into next year, we will be doing even more to make our operations in the UK greener and more eco-friendly, with some big developments to come soon.”

Last year, Wilo was accredited by globally renowned sustainability rating agency EcoVadis with the highest rating of platinum for a second consecutive year. This feat is achieved by only one percent of more than 100,000 companies assessed annually.

Oliver Hermes, CEO at Wilo Group, said: “We are delighted that Wilo has been included in this important and comprehensive listing, because it shows we’re not only on the right track, but are demonstrably one of the European leaders in climate protection.

“Sustainability is the driving force behind the Wilo Group. That’s why we give our sustainability strategy the highest priority. All other functional corporate strategies are subordinate to it – without exception”

Wilo’s goal of achieving climate-neutral production worldwide by 2025 has already been completed for all European and Chinese sites. The manufacturer also intends to expand its climate-positive and self-sufficient energy supply network across global operations as part of its aim to reach total climate neutrality by 2045.
