Discharges from the combined system and rainwater discharges are associated with high pollutant inputs into water bodies. Among other things, the solids suspended in wastewater act as a transport medium for a variety of pollutants, such as heavy metals, PAHs, MKW or endocrine disruptors. Particles of the fine fraction and organic solids in particular are able to bind pollutants to a greater extent due to their good sorption capacity.
