WILO'S DIGITAL ART INSTALLATION "WILO CONNECTED" RECEIVES RENOWNED RED DOT DESIGN AWARD
Dortmund. The digital art installation "Wilo Connected" at the headquarters of the multinational technology group Wilo has won the renowned Red Dot Design Award in the category "Brands & Communication Design 2022". The approximately 60 square metre LED installation in the foyer of the Pioneer Cube consists of 401 double-sided LED elements that interact to show various animated image or film sequences. In addition to the company logo and staff portraits, a film sequence of the rowing boat Deutschland-Achter is a central, recurring motif of the art installation.
The art installation was designed by Mehnert Corporate Design and created exclusively for Wilo. The technical realisation was carried out by tennagels Medientechnik. “The art installation is part of the communication strategy for the entire Wilopark,” explains Prof. Kurt Mehnert, owner of Mehnert Corporate Design. “In combination, all elements facilitate the livability and employee identification internally and externally."
“The installation is an artwork and LED screen at the same time,” says Marco Stapelmann, Head of Corporate Marketing. “The installation shows the innovative power of our company and conveys values from our company and family history. But it also allows us to publish new and varied content in image and sound, thus changing the entire feel of the foyer.”
“The visualisation of the Deutschland-Achter is particularly impressive,” adds Peter Kutz, Managing Director at Mehnert Corporate Design. “Standing on the ground floor, you can not only see the rowing boat from below, but also hear the sounds muffled by the water. If you follow the stairs upwards, you gain a new perspective: here you can see the men’s eight from above. Now both the oar strokes and the commands can be heard clearly and distinctly.”
The Red Dot Design Award is one of the largest design competitions worldwide and is awarded annually in the three categories “Product Design”, “Brands & Communication Design” and “Design Concept”. An international jury evaluates the submissions of designers, agencies and companies and awards the Red Dot as a seal of quality for good design
