Wilo opens new plant in Changzhou, China

Changzhou. Wilo is opening a new high-tech production site in Changzhou, China. The “Wilo Changzhou Park” includes a factory and office building as well as research and development facilities over an area totalling 84 hectares. The multinational technology group will manufacture around 3 million high-efficiency pumps and 3.5 million electric motors here every year.

“With this investment in a new high-tech factory, we want to write another chapter of our success story in China”, says Oliver Hermes, President & CEO of the Wilo Group. “The new production site allows us to offer products, systems and solutions that are even more tailored to regional market requirements. This will make the entire Wilo Group more resilient.” The expansion of production as well as research and development capacity in China is consistent with the global region-for-region strategy of the multinational technology group. Wilo wants to meet regional customer needs with products manufactured locally.

“In Changzhou, we have built one of the most modern factories. Industry 4.0 and consistent digitalisation form the bedrock of our production facilities and enable us to achieve our ambitious sustainability goals”, says Georg Weber, Executive Board member and CTO of the Wilo Group. The technical inspection association TÜV Rheinland has already awarded the site the “Wilo Changzhou Park Carbon Neutral Company” certificate. It has been recognised as carbon neutral in this way. “Wilo is a climate-protection company”, says Weber. “We want to be a pioneer in the industry and achieve carbon neutrality at all production sites worldwide by 2025.”

The grand opening ceremony was attended by numerous representatives from governments and industry organisations, including Zhou Chengtao, Secretary General of Changzhou Municipal People's Government, Lucas Meyer from the German Consulate General in Shanghai, Maximilian Butek from the German Chamber of Commerce in China, Song Zhongkui, Secretary General of the China Energy Conservation Association, and Meng Qingguo, Chairman of the China Association of Refrigeration. “Wilo firmly believes in Chinese–German economic relations. We are therefore delighted to celebrate yet another milestone in our company’s over 150-year history and to continue to write our success story together with our market partners”, Oliver Hermes emphasises.
