Effluent Treatment Plants
Wastewater Treatment for Distilleries and Ethanol Plants in India
Effluent Treatment Plants (ETP) are a core component of distillery operations due to the generation of high-strength wastewater, commonly known as spent wash. This effluent contains extremely high levels of Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), dissolved solids, organic matter, and residual chemicals from fermentation and distillation processes.
In India, strict environmental regulations by CPCB and State Pollution Control Boards mandate advanced treatment and, in many cases, Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) systems for distilleries. With the rapid expansion of ethanol production under the national blending program, efficient wastewater management has become even more critical for sustainable operations.
WILO supports distillery ETP systems with pumping solutions designed to handle high-temperature, high-viscosity, and highly contaminated effluents. These pumps ensure reliable performance across continuous treatment cycles, even under fluctuating loads and varying effluent characteristics.
By enabling efficient wastewater handling and treatment, WILO helps distilleries meet regulatory requirements, reduce environmental impact, and support sustainable growth in India’s biofuel and beverage sector.
