Chinakuri Mines – Pumping System
Chinakuri Mines, located in Dhanbad, faced challenges with their two-stage dewatering system, which was inefficient in terms of energy consumption and operational complexity. The original system comprised two pumps, each with a 400-meter head, installed in series. This configuration resulted in high energy usage, complex maintenance, and reduced operational efficiency.
Upon evaluating the system through a site visit and hydraulic analysis, it became clear that the required head of 700 meters could be efficiently achieved using a single-stage high-head pumping solution. The existing system's design was incompatible with the actual operational needs, causing inefficiencies and unnecessary equipment redundancy.
Wilo’s solution involved replacing the two pumps with a single high-head pump, thus optimizing the entire system’s hydraulic performance and ensuring energy savings. This upgrade has now successfully improved system reliability, lowered operational complexity, and reduced maintenance needs.
Wilo replaced the existing two-stage pumping arrangement with a single-stage high-head pump system, which effectively meets the operational requirements of 700 meters head. The new pumps were selected based on the actual site conditions, hydraulic parameters, and energy efficiency.
This solution optimized system performance by reducing energy consumption and simplifying operational complexity. The elimination of multi-stage dependencies improved the system's overall reliability and minimized downtime due to fewer equipment points.
The system has proven highly successful, delivering the required performance with lower energy consumption and reduced maintenance. Energy savings and enhanced operational efficiency have been achieved, setting a new benchmark for high-head dewatering in Indian coal mines.
