Sterling & Wilson – INS Varsha
Sterling & Wilson – INS Varsha
INS Varsha, a critical facility for the Indian Navy, located in Visakhapatnam, serves as a dedicated submarine base. The project involves the supply of fire fighting systems to safeguard the submarine yard, which is essential for national defense and maritime security. The system design adheres to NFPA-20 standards, ensuring operational safety and reliability in high-risk areas.
Wilo was chosen to provide fire pump solutions due to its reputation for high-quality products, local support, and ability to meet tight project timelines. The project demanded a combination of technical expertise and prompt delivery for the strategic defense application.
The fire-fighting solution provided by Wilo is designed to ensure rapid response and reliable operation under extreme conditions. The VT pumps are manufactured in Super Duplex MOC (Material of Construction) for enhanced strength and durability in corrosive and high-risk environments. These pumps are engineered to meet the high demands of fire safety systems in a submarine yard, where reliability and quick activation are critical.
Wilo’s approach included strong coordination with ITD Cementation (main contractor) and Sterling & Wilson (subcontractor) to ensure smooth execution and timely delivery. The support team from Wilo’s technical division was involved at every stage, from initial engineering support and compliance documentation to the final approval stage.
The pumps and associated components, including RC cooled engines, coupling, companion flanges, foundation bolts, and panels, ensure a comprehensive solution for fire safety.
