Hindustan Urvarak & Rasayan Limited

Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T), a globally renowned engineering and EPC organization, is associated with the execution of major fertilizer revival projects under Hindustan Urvarak & Rasayan Limited (HURL). HURL is a joint venture between NTPC, Coal India Limited (CIL), and Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), established to revive and modernize India’s fertilizer manufacturing infrastructure.

The project involves the redevelopment of three large gas-based fertilizer plants located at Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh), Barauni (Bihar), and Sindri (Jharkhand). Each unit comprises a 2,200 TPD Ammonia Plant and a 3,850 TPD Urea Plant, aimed at increasing domestic fertilizer production, reducing import dependency, and strengthening India’s agricultural supply chain.

Application & Pumps Used

Cooling Water Systems – Fertilizer & Process Industry

Segment: Oil & Gas
Application:
Cooling Water

Pump Solutions Supplied: Split Case Centrifugal Pumps

Number of Pumps: 18 Nos

The Barauni fertilizer complex requires a massive and highly reliable cooling water system to support the continuous production of ammonia and urea. Cooling is a critical component in fertilizer manufacturing, where large-scale heat exchange occurs throughout reactors, compressors, and purification units. Wilo supplied 18 high-performance Split Case Pumps engineered to deliver stable and high-volume cooling water flow across the entire facility.

Split case centrifugal pumps are widely adopted in fertilizer and heavy process industries due to their ability to handle large volumes of cooling water with high efficiency and operational stability. At the HURL fertilizer units executed by L&T, these pumps play a vital role in maintaining consistent cooling water circulation across critical plant sections. By deploying robust split case pumps within the cooling water network, the HURL fertilizer plants achieve thermal stability, equipment protection, and uninterrupted production, supporting India’s long-term fertilizer self-reliance and industrial growth.
