IOCL LNG Terminal
IOCL LNG Import, Storage & Regasification Terminal
The LNG Import, Storage & Regasification Terminal at Ennore, Tamil Nadu, is a strategically important energy infrastructure project developed by Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) to strengthen India’s natural gas supply chain. LNG terminals operate under extremely stringent safety norms due to the handling of cryogenic and flammable materials, making fire protection systems a mission-critical component of terminal design and operation.
The project engineering and execution were carried out by Black & Veatch, Mumbai. As part of the terminal’s safety infrastructure, high-reliability fire-fighting pump systems were installed to ensure immediate availability of fire water across storage tanks, regasification units, pipe racks, and jetty interfaces. The pumping system is designed to deliver high pressure and flow under emergency conditions, ensuring full compliance with LNG safety standards and statutory regulations.
Fire-fighting pumps in LNG terminals must remain fully operational under all scenarios, including emergency conditions where electrical power availability may be compromised. The pumps installed at the Ennore LNG Terminal are engineered to deliver rapid pressure build-up and stable discharge, ensuring effective coverage of hydrant networks, monitors, and deluge systems throughout the facility.
From a safety and operational standpoint, the multi-pump configuration provides redundancy and resilience, ensuring uninterrupted fire protection even during maintenance or partial system unavailability. The robust hydraulic design, high head capability, and proven reliability make these pumps ideally suited for critical LNG fire-fighting applications. This reference demonstrates a high-integrity pumping solution for large-scale LNG infrastructure developed under international EPC standards.
