HPCL Visakhapatnam Refinery
HPCL Visakhapatnam Refinery
The Visakhapatnam Refinery operated by Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) is one of India’s major coastal refineries, playing a vital role in meeting fuel demand across the eastern and southern regions. Large refineries require highly reliable, high-capacity pumping systems to support process units, utilities, and continuous plant operations under demanding operating conditions.
For this project, pumps were supplied to HPCL Visakhapatnam Refinery through Engineers India Limited (EIL), the project’s engineering consultant and EPC authority. The pumping systems are designed to handle very high flow rates at moderate heads, ensuring dependable circulation and transfer of process and utility fluids essential for refinery operations. The installation supports operational continuity, energy efficiency, and long-term mechanical reliability.
Large double-volute split case pumps are widely used in refineries for high-flow applications due to their excellent hydraulic balance, low radial loads, and stable performance across a wide operating range. The double-volute design minimizes shaft deflection and vibration, making these pumps particularly suitable for continuous-duty refinery service where reliability is critical.
The use of super duplex stainless steel provides superior resistance to corrosion and erosion, especially in coastal refinery environments where chloride-rich conditions are common. Coupled with high-power, low-speed motors, the pumps deliver efficient operation with reduced mechanical stress and extended service life. This reference demonstrates the capability to deliver engineered, large-capacity pumping solutions for complex refinery projects executed under leading EPC organizations.
