Water Transfer Pump to No. 1 Refinery – Reliance Industries

The No. 1 Refinery of Reliance Industries is a large-scale industrial facility where uninterrupted cooling water circulation is critical for maintaining process stability, equipment safety, and overall operational efficiency. Cooling towers form the backbone of refinery thermal management systems, supplying large volumes of water required for heat dissipation across multiple process units. Efficient transfer of cooling water from cooling towers to refinery units is therefore a mission-critical operation.

To support this requirement, a high-capacity water transfer pumping system has been installed to convey cooling water reliably from the cooling tower infrastructure to the refinery process areas. The system is engineered to handle extremely high flow rates while maintaining a consistent delivery head, ensuring stable cooling performance even under continuous and peak operational loads. Designed for heavy-duty industrial service, the pumping installation contributes to improved energy efficiency, reduced downtime, and long-term operational reliability within the refinery.

Pumps Used

Water Transfer Pumps (Cooling Tower Application)

Pump: Split Case Pump

Total Pumps: 6 Sets

Capacity: 7500 m³/hr per set

Application: Cooling Water Transfer from Cooling Towers to Refinery Process Units

Water transfer pumps used in refinery cooling tower applications must operate under demanding conditions, including continuous duty cycles, high flow requirements, and exposure to industrial water with varying quality. These pumps are specifically designed to deliver large volumes of water efficiently over long distances, ensuring adequate cooling water availability to heat exchangers, condensers, and critical refinery equipment.

From a performance and reliability perspective, such high-capacity cooling water pumps are built with robust hydraulic designs, heavy-duty bearings, and corrosion-resistant materials to withstand prolonged operation in harsh refinery environments. The multi-pump configuration provides operational redundancy, allowing maintenance activities to be carried out without disrupting refinery cooling operations. This ensures process safety, minimizes unplanned shutdowns, and supports uninterrupted refinery production—making the pumping system a vital component of the overall refinery infrastructure.
