The IOCL Panipat Refinery is one of India’s largest petrochemical complexes, supplying fuel and petrochemical products across North India. The refinery’s cooling water system is critical for maintaining process efficiency and ensuring continuous plant operations.

The existing pumps had experienced a drop in efficiency from the original 93.5% to nearly 80%, leading to increased energy consumption and reduced system performance. Aging equipment and operational wear further contributed to inefficiencies, requiring urgent intervention.

The refinery required a high-efficiency replacement solution capable of restoring original performance levels while reducing energy consumption. Wilo was selected due to its expertise in retrofit solutions and ability to deliver high-performance pumps with minimal system disruption.

Wilo supplied high-efficiency horizontal split case pumps designed to restore system performance to original design conditions. The upgraded pumps successfully achieved 93.5% efficiency, matching initial performance levels.

The new system significantly reduced power consumption, delivering energy savings of approximately 80 kW per pump. This resulted in substantial cost savings and improved overall plant efficiency.

The pumps were also equipped with protective coatings to enhance durability and withstand harsh operating conditions within the refinery environment. This ensured long-term reliability and reduced maintenance frequency. The solution not only restored system performance but also improved sustainability by reducing energy usage and carbon footprint, making it a highly successful retrofit project.
