Modern urban wastewater treatment plant

Matunga Sewage Pumping Station

Matunga Sewage Pumping Station

The Matunga Sewage Pumping Station, operated by the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM), is a critical component of Mumbai's wastewater collection and conveyance network. Commissioned in 2000, the station operates around the clock, receiving raw sewage from the surrounding Matunga and Dadar East catchment areas before transferring it to downstream facilities, including the Dadar Pumping Station and the Worli Wastewater Treatment Facility (WwTF). Its continuous operation plays an essential role in maintaining public sanitation, protecting the environment, and supporting the city's growing urban infrastructure.

To meet the demanding requirements of high-volume wastewater transfer, Wilo supplied four high-capacity Vertical Non-Clog Sewage Pumps engineered for continuous municipal operation. Designed to deliver reliable performance under challenging sewage conditions, these pumps have been operating successfully for over two decades, ensuring uninterrupted sewage conveyance while providing exceptional operational reliability and long service life.

Handling approximately 90 MLD per pump, the Matunga Sewage Pumping Station requires robust pumping solutions capable of operating continuously under demanding municipal conditions. Wilo's engineered vertical non-clog sewage pumps are specifically designed for high-capacity raw sewage transfer, offering superior solids handling capability, excellent hydraulic efficiency, and dependable long-term performance with minimal maintenance requirements.

The pumps incorporate an Extended (Cardan) Shaft Design, which keeps the motor safely above potential flooding while the hydraulic assembly operates within the wet well. This proven configuration enhances operational reliability during heavy monsoon conditions, minimizes downtime, and protects critical equipment from flood-related damage. With more than two decades of successful operation, the installation demonstrates Wilo's commitment to delivering reliable, resilient, and sustainable pumping solutions for critical municipal wastewater infrastructure.
