Greater Shillong Water Supply Project

Greater Shillong Water Supply Project

The Greater Shillong Water Supply Project, undertaken by the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), Meghalaya, focuses on upgrading the existing water infrastructure to ensure reliable water supply to Shillong and surrounding hilly regions. The project addresses challenges such as the non-availability of old pumps for raw water applications and the need for energy-efficient solutions for clear water supply.

Wilo was selected to provide advanced pumping solutions despite strong competition, by demonstrating clear technical superiority and lifecycle cost benefits. The project demanded precise engineering to meet duty parameters at 1400 rpm while staying within strict motor rating limits defined in the tender specifications.

Wilo-Vertical Turbine

Application & Pumps Used

Raw & Clear Water Supply Systems:

  • Application: Raw Water Intake & Clear Water Distribution
  • Segment: Water Supply / Municipal Infrastructure

Pump Solutions Supplied:

  • Vertical Turbine Pumps
  • Multistage Pumps

Total Pumps Installed: 12

Wilo’s pumping solution was designed to efficiently handle both raw water intake and clear water distribution within the constraints of the existing pump house layout. The pumps were engineered to achieve the required duty parameters at 1400 rpm, ensuring compliance with departmental specifications while maintaining optimal performance.

The vertical turbine pumps play a critical role in lifting raw water from the source, while the multistage pumps ensure smooth and efficient transfer of treated water across the distribution network. The system ensures consistent water flow even in challenging terrain conditions typical of hilly regions.

With a focus on energy efficiency and operational reliability, Wilo’s pumps contribute to reduced power consumption and long-term sustainability. The solution ensures dependable water supply, supporting improved public health and reducing reliance on unsafe water sources for the region.
