H2LATAM Summit Brazil drives the green hydrogen economy across Latin America

Back to overview

23.10.2025

Organized by the Federation of Industries of the State of Ceará (FIEC) and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), the event brought together regional leaders to strengthen energy transition and international cooperation.

Fortaleza, Brazil. On October 8–9, 2025, the Federation of Industries of the State of Ceará (FIEC), together with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and with the support of the Brazilian-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AHK Brazil), hosted the H2LATAM Summit Brazil—an international event of great relevance aimed at promoting the green hydrogen economy and accelerating the energy transition across Latin America and the Caribbean. The meeting is part of the international H2Uppp (International Hydrogen Ramp-up Programme), promoted by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) and implemented by GIZ. The program seeks to foster the development of projects and expand the green hydrogen market in emerging countries by strengthening public-private partnerships that drive technological innovation and sustainable growth.

During the event, Svenja Ahlburg, Chief Sales Officer Americas & Vice President Latin America of the Wilo Group, participated in the panel “Hydrogen for All: Public Value and Global Replicability of H2Uppp Public-Private Partnerships”, which brought together key public and private sector representatives to discuss the role of such partnerships in advancing and scaling green hydrogen projects in the region.

Strategic agreements and international cooperation

During the opening ceremony, key strategic agreements were signed, including a letter of intent between the Government of Ceará, the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, and FIEC, establishing a cooperation framework based on trust, reciprocity, and sustainable development. The agreement focuses on collaboration in key areas such as renewable energy, environmental economics, port logistics, and workforce training.

In this context, Wilo, GIZ, and AHK Rio formalized their cooperation for the implementation of the “H2 Power Plants for LATAM: Scaling Modular Green Hydrogen for Industrial Transformation in Brazil and Chile” project—a regional initiative aimed at accelerating green hydrogen development through modular industrial solutions. Officially launched during Hyvolution Chile 2025, the project represents a strategic step toward strengthening local capacities, conducting feasibility studies, developing innovative business models, and fostering specialized technical talent.

Official notice from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi):

Green hydrogen is central to the energy transition and climate protection. Through H2Uppp, the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy supports the entrepreneurial drive and project development crucial to the global scaling of hydrogen markets. In doing so, the the Ministry fosters investment and propels the global hydrogen economy. These projects also offer local economic benefits, generating jobs, tax revenue, and entrepreneurial growth through the production, use, and trade of green hydrogen and its derivatives. With this initiative, the Ministry helps meet future green hydrogen demand in Germany and Europe, while enabling valuable technology transfer.
